Tottenham-Liverpool is a match valid for the first leg of the League Cup semifinals and is played Wednesday at 9 p.m.: news, statistics, likely lineups and prediction.
The home defeat to Newcastle, the third in the last four games and the tenth in the league, officially opened the crisis at Tottenham. Spurs’ performance, which until Christmas had been traveling between highs and lows, has suddenly collapsed in the last two weeks, making the bench on which Australian coach Ange Postecoglou sits even less solid.
The ownership for now is merely observing, not least because Postecoglou has an ironclad alibi and that is that of the many injured – the infirmary is full and the defense, for example, has its men counted – which is making everything more complicated. Last Saturday, Tottenham proved once again to be very fragile and after taking the lead through Solanke after 4 minutes, they were remounted by the Magpies, who struck first through Gordon and then through their goal scorer Isak (1-2). The standings, in fact, do not lie: Spurs are 12th, out of everything and very far from that fourth place – Chelsea is +12 – that has been set among the season’s goals.
Postecoglou, at this point, may be reserving more interest for the League Cup, a possible “lifesaver” in a season that now appears compromised. After beating Manchester United in a thrilling 4-3 victory last Dec. 19, Tottenham will have to contend with a surging Liverpool in the semifinal double. The Reds on Sunday did not go beyond a draw with Manchester United, which pulled out the pride (2-2) in the day’s highlight match. Arne Slot’s men nevertheless remain ahead of everyone in the standings, six points ahead of Arsenal (who also played an extra match).
Of Tottenham’s long list of unavailable players we have already mentioned and it is quite likely that Postecoglou will have to scrape the bottom of the barrel. In Liverpool, on the other hand, it might be time for Federico Chiesa.

The Prediction
Tottenham and Liverpool find themselves facing each other just days after the pyrotechnic 6-3 victory with which the Reds, on December 22, crushed Spurs. This time, too, we hypothesize a prolific match, reflecting the playing ideas of the two coaches: at least 4 goals in total.
