Tochampionsttenham-Liverpool, Premier League: odds, predictions

by Thorsten

Tottenham-Liverpool is a match on the seventh day of the Premier League and is played on Saturday at 18:30: TV, formations, predictions.

Who will be the anti-Manchester City this year? It is impossible to give a precise answer, both because we are only in the seventh day and because, at the moment, behind the defending champions – the only ones still with full points – there is a lot of traffic. But we already have some certainties: Liverpool are back.

The Reds, after a season that was clearly below their standards, realised in the summer that perhaps it was better to try and ‘renew’ the squad and, to date, they appear to be the most credible contender for Pep Guardiola’s unstoppable Cityzens. The results say it: Jurgen Klopp’s team, after the draw with Chelsea in the opener, have recorded seven victories in a row. The German coach has not snubbed the cups either: in the Europa League and League Cup, Liverpool defeated the Austrians of Lask Linz, taking the first three points in the group stage of the competition, and Leicester, beaten with the same result (3-1) last Wednesday in the national cup. A distinguishing feature of these Reds are the comebacks: even against the Foxes, Salah and his teammates were able to turn the opposition around from a disadvantage.

Spurs, no Kane no problem

Liverpool go into their direct clash with Tottenham as runners-up behind City, who are only two points up. Spurs, on the other hand, have two less.

The Londoners, just like the Reds, want to make sure that this can be the season of rebirth. They have made a clean break with the past – at the end of August they said goodbye to the captain Harry Kane – and have put their trust in Ange Postecoglou, a coach who had never coached in the Premier League and who has just returned from his experience in Scotland at the helm of Celtic. Tottenham now play in a completely different way to how they did under Antonio Conte last year and the numbers prove it too: already 15 goals scored for what is currently the third most prolific attack in the English top league. Last Sunday Spurs snatched a point in the derby with Arsenal (2-2), while they did not play in the League Cup because they were eliminated in the second round by Fulham.

The Prediction

An important test for both, still unbeaten after six matches. Tottenham have never scored less than two goals and so has Liverpool, with the exception of the match against Chelsea in the opener, which ended 1-1. The feeling is that the two teams will not disappoint this time either: we are expecting a highly spectacular match, in which there will be no shortage of goals on either side. The Reds should avoid defeat.

The Tottenham-Liverpool line-ups

  • TOTTENHAM (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Pedro Porro, Romero, van de Ven, Udogie; Sarr, Bissouma; Kulusevski, Maddison, Son; Richarlison.
  • LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Alisson; Gomez, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson; Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Jones; Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 2-2
