Thursday, Sept. 5 predictions: Nations League, World Cup qualifiers

by Martin

Thursday September 5 predictions, Nations League matches kick off with Spain and Portugal among others on the field.

The new edition of the Nations League kicks off this evening, a competition that all European national teams, especially those in League A, should not snub too much because it is tied in double-tie with the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying rounds. There will be benefits both in view of the draw (one can become seeded) and the possibility of getting assured places for the qualifying playoffs.

Between the bigs the first to take the field will be Portugal and Spain. Portugal will face Croatia, a challenge between two disappointments of the last European Championship. Croatia appears to be in a state of decline and starts as the underdog. On the other hand, the one who churns out new talent from one year to the next is Spain, which after having filled up in the summer (European Championships and gold medal at the Olympics) starts favored in Serbia against a national team without Vlahovic.

Predictions on the other matches

Slovakia seeks continuity after their good showing at Euro 2024: against Estonia victory within reach. Also favored in the prediction is Sweden at home to modest Azerbaijan. As for matches with at least three goals in total, it is worth looking at the World Cup qualifiers being played in Asia: Japan-China and Iran-Kyrgyzstan the most likely.
