Thursday, Jan. 9 predictions: FA Cup, Spanish Super Cup, Saudi Pro League

by Mike

Thursday, Jan. 9 predictions: there are three FA Cup matches, Real Madrid-Maiorca in the Spanish Super Cup and other games.

In England, the month of January is usually devoted to domestic cups, and on the second weekend of 2025, the FA Cup takes center stage, ready to start again with the third round. Premier League and Championship clubs also enter the game: the draw, as usual, is full.

In the first three matches scheduled for today, Everton and Fulham also take the field: both will do so in front of their own public respectively against Peterborough United – a club participating in League One, the English equivalent of our Serie C – and Watford, which instead plays in the cadet league.

For the Toffees, the FA Cup may represent an opportunity to regain lost certainties but, above all, to start scoring again with some continuity: in fact, Peterborough United is the team that has conceded the most goals (46) in its league because of its often unscrupulous attitude. At least three total goals likely.

As for Fulham in the cup, Cottagers coach Marco Silva will give space to those who have played less so far but the victory should come all the same given the difficult moment of the opponents, fresh from three consecutive defeats in the Championship and slipped out of the playoff zone.

Predictions on the other matches

In Saudi Arabia, the second semifinal of the Spanish Super Cup is being played, with Real Madrid facing Mallorca, finalists of the last edition of the King’s Cup, lost in the final to Athletic Bilbao.

In these kinds of matches, Real Madrid hardly commits missteps. Mallorca will not give up easily this time, but they will be able to do little against the quality of the Blancos’ individuals: at least 3 goals in total, as in the last 8 games that Ancelotti’s men have played between various cups and the league.
