Sinner, the prophecy has come true: he has always been like this.
It fits that ever since he ascended the throne everyone has been dying to find out every single detail about his private life, his past and his way of being. Just as it fits that from time to time someone pops up on TV or in magazines to tell anecdotes concerning the “old” Jannik Sinner. That boy who was not yet a champion but already showed great promise.
At Sesto Pusteria, where he was born and raised, everyone knows him. And several times, over time, it happened that his former ski instructor, or acquaintances of the family, intervened to reveal to the fans some more details about their champion. In the past few hours, however, it was one of his high school classmates who came forward and brought to our attention some anecdotes that give us an even better understanding of what the world No. 1 really looks like.
Sinner left home very early, but before moving to Bordighera he attended the “Walther” business school in Bolzano. There he met Adisa Yahya, who in recent hours, a guest on Rai Radio1’s Un giorno da pecora, revealed something unexpected about the champion who is making the whole world dream by grinding out trophy after trophy.
Sinner hasn’t changed one iota: she says so
First, an anecdote that almost chills: “Once, when Jannik and I were classmates, he dropped a tennis ball from his backpack. I picked it up and said, please sign it for me, so when you are famous I can auction it. He didn’t say anything, just had a laugh and signed it. “
That ball Adisa did not sell: she will keep it for her son, in the hope that it will bring him luck in case he wants to try to play tennis someday. After that, Jannik’s former classmate revealed more details about Sinner’s way of being: “He was a very calm boy,” she observed, “capable and reserved. He did not talk much and focused only on his work.”
“He was shy,” she added, ”in fact it was always me who tried to talk to him. He was always focused and ambitious, when he came to school he always had so much to do and catch up on,” she concluded on Un Giorno da Pecora, ”he didn’t waste much time with us chatting. And we believe him well, busy as he surely was, laying the foundation for his beautiful career.
