The championship comes to a halt, it’s official: all matches postponed

by Sabrina

The league is at a standstill, the news had been in the air since last night, but now the official announcement has come: the entire round has been postponed.

Now it’s official too, but it was practically a foregone conclusion that this decision would be taken. No football, no sporting events. Postponed until a later date every match or competition originally scheduled for this weekend in the UK. A halt to all activities that is expected to last at least until 19 September, the day of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, who died yesterday at her Scottish residence in Balmoral, Scotland, at the age of 96, seventy of which she spent on the throne. The whole nation is therefore in mourning and will be for the next ten days.

As reported by the portal calcioefinanza.it, Premier League officials held talks with the government yesterday to discuss the postponement of the seventh day of the championship. In fact, the first ‘hints’ were already there this morning, with the cancellation of the Championship match between Burnley and Norwich and the League Two match between Tranmere Rovers and Stockport County.

Championship stoppage, Premier League day postponed due to the death of the Queen

The Premier League, within minutes of the feral news, had issued an official statement on its official website, in which it said it was “deeply saddened to learn of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Our thoughts and condolences,’ the English top flight’s note read, ‘go out to the royal family and to all around the world who mourn the loss of Her Majesty. It now remains to be seen when the seventh round will be made up, given that between now and November – when there will be a two-month break for the world championships in Qatar – the calendar is completely jammed.

Uefa competitions scheduled for next week should not stop. Yesterday the English teams (West Ham, Manchester United, Arsenal) took the field regularly. Finally, further updates on the other Premier League matches will be communicated in due course.
