Tennis, the Carrara-based tennis player after the Wimbledon semifinal chose to depart Croatia to prepare for the Olympics: predictions.
Lorenzo Musetti will be one of the protagonists of the Italian expedition to the Paris Olympics, where he will also compete in doubles together with world number one, Jannik Sinner. Before leaving for France, however, the Carrara tennis player decided to stop by the Umag tournament, valid for the 250 category, to arrive ready for the event that is about to open in the French capital.
Musetti is coming off a stellar season on grass, in which he made it to the final at Queen’s – lost to American Paul – and especially his first Slam semifinal at Wimbledon, where he had to raise the white flag against Novak Djokovic. Having re-entered the top 20 in the world, the Tuscan rediscovered what is his favorite surface, clay. In Umag Musetti is seeded number 2 and that is why he skipped the first round: in the second round he will face Argentine Marco Trungelliti, who instead had to make the qualifiers in order to enter the main draw. In the first match Trungelliti struggled to settle compatriot Andreozzi, folded in three sets after 2 hours and two minutes. There is no precedent with Musetti but it is highly likely that the Italian, superior in all respects, will prevail in two sets.
Sonego is in danger against Frenchman Muller
In Croatia today it is also the turn of two other Italians, Flavio Cobolli and Lorenzo Sonego. The young Roman tennis player impressed in his debut against the tricky Navone, while the Piedmontese player only came out on top in the third set tie break against the stubborn Croatian Poljicak.
Cobolli also seems to have a good chance against veteran Dusan Lajovic, Sonego, on the other hand, will not start with the favor of the odds against Frenchman Alexandre Muller: the Turin native in the third set of the match with Poljicak had to deal with severe cramps. In the Croatian tournament, victory was also within reach for Francisco Cerundolo, who should have an easy time against host Dodig, someone who is at his best in doubles.
In Kitzbuhel, on the other hand, Argentina’s Etcheverry will make the case for his greater adaptability on clay than Germany’s Hanfmann, although the latter has already overturned the odds in the first round against Spain’s Munar. The Iberian Martinez is favored over India’s Nagal, while a long match looms between two tennis players who are showing great promise as Hugo Gaston and Roberto Carballes Baena. Balance is also expected in the match between Serbian Djere and Brazilian Seyboth Wild, two shredded brick specialists.
For Matteo Berrettini, on the other hand, there is another tough round against Chilean Alejandro Tabilo: the Roman comes from a 7-6 7-6 victory with Russian Kotov. We expect at least one tie break.
