Spain-Georgia, Euro 2024: free-to-air TV, streaming, likely lineups, predictions

by Lea

Spain-Georgia is a match valid for the round of 16 of Euro 2024 and is played Sunday at 9 p.m.: statistics, probable formations, predictions, live TV and streaming.

In a group stage where spectacle has often been lacking and which has not provided memorable matches, Spain has been the exception. No one has convinced like Luis De La Fuente’s men, who not surprisingly were the only ones to win their group, the one on paper the most complicated, with full points.

La Roja appeared decidedly more organized than other big boys, who were initially predicted to be a step above the Iberians (see under England and France). Morata and his teammates shined especially in the first two matches, in which they first annihilated fearsome Croatia (3-0), filing the file already in the first half, and then dominated far and wide Luciano Spalletti’s Italy, which only thanks to Donnarumma’s resounding saves managed to avoid a bad figure by losing by one goal (1-0). Spain, despite already having qualification and first place in their pockets, finally also narrowly defeated Albania with a goal from Ferran Torres (0-1), collecting their third clean sheet. A match in which De La Fuente took advantage to give minutes to all the second lines and keep the starters at rest.

Georgia, it’s already history

Paradoxically, however, Roja has landed in the toughest part of the scoreboard and before the final might have to deal with other bigwigs of the caliber of Germany, France and Portugal. Now, however, there is the Georgia file to be dealt with.

The Caucasians achieved a real feat, since they made it to the round of 16 despite the fact that this was their first appearance in a final stage of a European Championship. The courage and determination of Kvaratskhelia and his teammates paid off, making up for the lack of experience and, above all, the low technical level of the squad at Willy Sagnol’s disposal. Georgia, which had not disfigured either against Turkey in the opener (3-1) or against the Czech Republic (1-1), surprised everyone on the last day of the group stage by achieving a historic victory against already qualified Portugal, which capitulated 2-0 (Kvaratskhelia and Mikautadze, the latter the momentary top scorer of the event). The other big star, besides the Napoli striker, was goalkeeper Mamardashvili, who was extraordinary with his saves against the Lusitanians.

The latest lineup news

After the “total” turnover against Albania, De La Fuente will return to the starting lineup. In the center of the defense again the pair formed by the two “French” Le Normand and Laporte, on their sides the experienced Carvajal and the valuable Cucurella. In midfield, along with the irreplaceable Rodri – the Manchester City director is available again after serving his disqualification – wide to Fabian Ruiz and Pedri, in attack instead we will see again the effective trident formed by Yamal, Morata and Williams. The only ones not at their best, finally, are Nacho and Perez.

There will be no changes, however, in Georgia’s lineup, which will be the same as the one that faced (and beat) Portugal. Sagnol will reintroduce the 3-5-2, with the attacking tandem consisting of Kvaratskhelia and Mikautadze. The French coach will not be able to count on only Mekvabishvili, who has been disqualified for added yellows.

The prediction

Georgia’s “misfortune” was to have caught the most in-form selection of the European Championship, the one that showed by far the best things. Most likely the path of the Euro 2024 freshman will stop in Cologne, but we believe that if they should replicate the same performance offered against Portugal, they can give Roja a hard time. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that Georgia will be the first team to pierce the defense of De La Fuente’s selection, in a match of at least three goals total. The two teams are very familiar with each other, having faced each other in the qualifying round: in both cases Kvaratskhelia and his teammates, despite cashing two sharp defeats, scored at least one goal (1-7 and 3-1).
