Southampton-Liverpool, Premier League: odds, predictions

by Michael

Southampton-Liverpool is a match for the 38th day of the Premier League and is played on Sunday at 5:30pm: TV, predictions.

The streak of seven consecutive wins between April and May was not enough for Liverpool to regain fourth place and Champions League qualification.

The Reds have woken up too late and are paying the price for an unsatisfactory, at times even disastrous, first half of the season – in fact at least until last March there was no sign of the real Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp, in one of the last press conferences, admitted his own mistakes, stating without problems that both Newcastle and Manchester United, the two teams on which Salah and his companions had to race in these last weeks, were more deserving. The next edition of the cup with the big ears, for the first time in six years, will not see Liverpool in the starting line-up: the Reds will have to console themselves with the Europa League, but at Anfield Road there is already talk of reconstruction – the midfield needs to be rebuilt – despite the position of the German coach, in England since 2015, remaining firmly in place.

Liverpool on the final day of the season will take on Southampton, so far the only team already certain of relegation to the Championship.

The Reds can neither be caught nor go beyond fifth place but they will do all they can not to break the long series of positive results, which has been going on for ten rounds. Jurgen Klopp’s men last lost on 1 April when they were overwhelmed by goals (4-1) from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. The Saints, on the other hand, decided to pull the plug once they were arithmetically relegated. Only defeats in the last five days for the red and whites, who are preparing to restart from the lower division.

The Prediction

Klopp could give space to the second lines, but especially to those players who have already said goodbye to the Reds, such as Firmino and Milner. Southampton’s match is likely to be an entertaining and eventful one, with Liverpool likely to score between two and four goals against a defence that has conceded 12 goals in their last four matches.

The likely Southampton-Liverpool line-up

  • SOUTHAMPTON (4-2-3-1): McCarthy; Bree, Bednarek, Lyanco, Walker-Peters; Ward-Prowse, Lavia; Walcott, Alcaraz, Elyounoussi; Aribo.
  • LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Tsimikas; Milner, Fabinho, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Salah, Firmino, Luis Diaz.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 1-3
