Southampton and Everton are on identical paths, although two teams who finished the first half of the season in very different ways come into this match after the break: the hosts, after their resounding victory over Chelsea, have picked up two defeats against Wolves and Aston Villa. Lampard’s guests, on the other hand, come from six useful results in a row between league and cup and beat West Ham. There is little comment on who is in the best form at the moment.
Of course, there is a statistic to consider: in the last two home fixtures, Southampton have beaten the Liverpool blues on both occasions: two to nil in both 2020 and 2022. Could it happen again?
