Slovenia-Denmark, Kek’s selection will try to put the screws to Denmark. And there is an interesting duel between two talents.
Group C is the one that, in theory, should be dominated by England, the big favorite for the title along with France. Behind the English, in the pecking order, are Denmark and Serbia, who are likely to compete for second place. Few chances, finally, for Slovenia, which needs a real feat to avoid last place.
Matjaz Kek’s men have not qualified for the final stage of a European Championship for 24 years. In fact, their last participation was in Euro 2000, the edition hosted by the Netherlands and Belgium. Sesko and his teammates got a plane ticket to Germany thanks to second place in their qualifying group, which happened to be won by Denmark. Slovenia scored the same points as the Danes, 22, and did better both in terms of scoring and defense (20 goals scored and only 9 conceded). The star is undoubtedly the Leipzig striker, who has scored five goals in the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign. Denmark is dreaming of another exploit like the one in 2021, when they surprisingly went all the way to the semifinals and put a scare into England. The group is essentially the same – including the selector, Kasper Hjulmand – although three years ago the young center forward Hojlund, who exploded at Atalanta and was bought last summer by Manchester United for about 80 million euros, was not present for obvious age-related reasons.

Hjulmand, therefore, is betting big on the Red Devils’ center forward, who will be supported in attack by Wind, the author of 11 goals in the last Bundesliga with the Wolfsburg shirt.
Although returning from a season full of ups and downs at United, Hojlund seldom betrayed expectations when he wore the jersey of his national team and in fact in the qualifiers he was a genuine star, netting 7 goals. He is the biggest suspect to end up in the scorers’ table, while as far as shots among the potentially most dangerous Danes are concerned, we suggest the names of Hojbjerg and especially Maehle: the former Atalanta man is capable of playing full-band, covering the role of both full-back and high outside, and it would not be a surprise if he also churns out at least one assist. Captain Eriksen, on the other hand, should hit the goal mirror at least once on set pieces. The number one danger for the Danish defense will undoubtedly be Sesko, who appeared “on fire” in the last few days of the league with Leipzig. Finally, three are likely to end up in the referee’s notebook: Slovenian Bijol and Danes Christensen and Kristensen.
