Sinner-Tamberi, social duel leaves everyone speechless

by Sabrina

Another chaos in the aftermath of the Olympics: the social duel between Jannik Sinner and Gianmarco Tamberi upsets the social people.

It’s been three weeks or so that’s all people have been talking about. In between there have been a variety of Italian successes and 40 medals, some of them even gold. None of this, however, has been enough to sweep away the controversy that began the moment Jannik Sinner announced he would not be able to take part in the Olympics.

Before the year even began he had been clear: he wanted a medal, reasoning that he clearly intended to participate in the Paris Games. Fate got the better of his will, however, forcing him to forfeit due to tonsillitis that arose after the brief vacation he took in the aftermath of Wimbledon. The rest is history: the Italian was attacked mercilessly, even accused of making up an illness so as not to be forced to compete beyond the Alps.

The refrain, good or bad, is always the same. Many believe that Jannik put personal interests before the Italian jersey and therefore, instead of returning to clay to chase a medal, he preferred to focus on the season on concrete. It’s just too bad that one only had to watch him play in Montreal to realize that Sinner is debilitated in earnest and hasn’t made anything up, quite the contrary. You can see a mile away that he is not as fit as usual.

Bertolucci said enough: it has to do with Sinner and Tamberi

Nevertheless, the controversies continue. Further fomenting them is the fact that Gianmarco Tamberi, a veteran of this very unfortunate Olympics, decided to compete despite being hospitalized due to some, excruciating, kidney colic

It did not take long for someone to compare Sinner’s precautionary choice to Gimbo’s audacity, remarking that wanting is power and that Jannik could have played even with tonsillitis if only he had wanted to. Remarks that leave time to be found and against which no less than the legendary Paolo Bertolucci has lashed out in the past few hours. Who often, in fact, takes to the field on social media to defend the darlings of the sport of which he was an authentic champion.

“We are succeeding in the arduous task of pitting some of the best champions we have against each other. Even engaged in different specialties. Too hard to enjoy them?” the former tennis player wrote, hoping that the controversy will subside and that Sinner will be left alone, finally, once and for all. But will that be enough for the detractors to turn around?
