Sinner stalls, Alcaraz shortens: everything is already decided

by Mike

While Alcaraz has already made the official announcement, all is silent regarding Sinner.

Jannik Sinner has been clear. Just enough time to raise to the sky the salad bowl up for grabs at the Davis Cup, the second within a year, that he already had his hands full about his participation in the 2025 edition of the team competition.

Not that he’s being precious, mind you, that wouldn’t be his style. It’s just that, after winning two in a row, it fits both that he wants to leave room for other aspiring world champions and, why not, that he wants to anticipate the vacations. Participating in the Davis Finals means lengthening the season by another week and taking time away from either the vacations or the off-season. Hence, then, the decision, still yet to be pondered, to take a break from the Italian national team.

Especially since next season will be, if possible, even more challenging than the one Sinner and his colleagues have just left behind. The world No. 1 will have to confirm this year’s positive trend and prove that he has deserved to win everything he has stood for over the past 12 months. And it will not be easy, with so many dogs on the bone ready to get in his way.

Sinner wavers and Alcaraz flies: he’ll be there too

One of them is undoubtedly Carlos Alcaraz, who has won the other two Slams on the Atp calendar this year. And who is probably the one who has suffered most from Sinner’s boom, clearly being his main competitor.

The foresight, however, he does not lack, so much so that the Iberian champion has already decided, unlike Sinner, to treat himself to a great adventure next year. If Sinner has not yet breathed a word about it, the Murcia rival has confirmed his willingness to participate in the Laver Cup, which will be played in San Francisco in 2025. The official announcement came in the past few hours and Carlitos, of course, will join Team Europe.

And he too, like a bit of everyone, event organizers included, will be keeping his fingers crossed in the hope that Sinner will decide to take part. So far he has preferred to defect, but the organizers will try again until he probably capitulates. And who knows, this may be, for us and the Laver Cup audience, the time to see the world No. 1 in another capacity.
