Sinner torpedoed overnight: no more room for him. Script to be rewritten, it’s all Nole’s fault.
Curtain down on the Australian Open, he flew to the Dolomites. To the home of the “enemy,” practically. For it was there, in those latitudes, that the young talent was born who took two things away from him in one fell swoop: the cup up for grabs in Melbourne and the chance to win the Grand Slam. Not a chance for this year either, having lost the first Major of the year.
So it fits that, net of sympathy for him, Jannik Sinner is his “bogeyman” for him right now. And it also fits that Novak Djokovic wanted to take a break to forget what happened in kangaroo land. He did not expect it, perhaps. He was well aware that he was surrounded by newcomers eager to annoy the circuit champions. And he also knew well that the South Tyrolean was among the favorites to win. He didn’t really want to believe it, though, until Jannik put in the last ball. The decisive point.
Who knows how many times he must have thought and replayed that moment, King Nole. How many times he must have replayed the Australian Open semifinal in his mind and how many times he must have dreamed that it would end another way. Unfortunately, however, it cannot. Unless…
Sinner torpedoed: we’re going back
Yes, there is an “unless.” The last word is not yet spoken. Maybe it is possible to press the rewind button and go back to that moment. That moment there. The one where it was clear how much Sinner wanted the win and how much he wanted to beat the Djoker.
Glad to be part of another “ATP season. “Amazing group of actors, very proud to be part of this cast. @atptour pic.twitter.com/TseS41TdgS

Of course you can’t, it’s obvious, but Nole hopes anyway. So much so that, in reference to a hilarious video released by the Atp Tour in the past few hours, in which the season is told as if it were a reality show, Djokovic wrote the following: “Normally the writers start the season with my character Novak winning the Australian Open title. So for anyone who does not like the beginning of this season, please contact the director.”
In Novak Sinner’s dreams he is torpedoed, cut out of the game as if nothing happened. A sign that he has not yet “forgiven” him and is having a hard time accepting all that has happened in the land of kangaroos. Best to laugh it off and joke about it, then…
