World number one Jannik Sinner continues to cause discussion. And things go beyond the results, the comparison leaves one incredulous.
In the last twelve months Jannik Sinner has had an extraordinary explosion that have quickly made him one of the most beloved Italian sportsmen. Many remember what happened last November with the victory over Novak Djokovic and the Davis Cup triumph after more than 50 years of waiting.
At the same time, the 2024 start was extraordinary, the Australian Open victory and the achievements that led him to become the first Italian number one in the world. So much satisfaction and also – unfortunately – the beginning of physical problems. Jannik missed Rome and some tournaments because of a hip problem, arrived in precarious condition at Roland Garros and then had a disappointment at Wimbledon. Finally the much criticized decision not to participate in the Olympics, many almost forget that Jannik was forced to because of tonsillitis.
In recent days the Italian tennis player has been repeatedly accused of ‘poor Italianism’ or lack of commitment, and Jannik has been repeatedly asked to reiterate his position. An anomalous situation where Italy has pilloried one of its greatest talents. A peculiar situation where they ‘had to take the field’ to defend the darling of ‘some’ fans.
Caos Sinner, unprecedented defense pops up
The newspaper Alto Adige published an article with a number of points in Sinner’s defense, and first and foremost it states, “Jannik Sinner arouses suspicion among the wild troglodytes on social media.” The article highlights several characters in the past (he gives the example of Bossi and Padania) who did not want to be Italian. Sinner, on the other hand, never said that, always defended the homeland when he could and was falsely accused.
“He doesn’t feel the azzurra jersey’ or ‘he’s more Austrian than Italian,’ are messages that now constantly resonate among the South Tyrolean’s haters, unfair criticisms that make fans say ‘That’s enough. A peculiar situation, and the newspaper erects a series of rights with the azure who has carried Italy on his shoulders and has never questioned his Italian-ness.
A nice final story with Alto Adige celebrating the tennis player’s talent and harshly attacking his haters. It’s time to stop questioning his desire to defend the country, and the daily defends Sinner
