Sinner, totally unexpected spoiler rattles Italtennis fans: the Olympics are the least of the problems.
After just three years, history has repeated itself. Jannik Sinner gave up the Olympics — this time for tonsillitis, then to work on his game and improve — and, punctually, he was slaughtered in every possible and imaginable way. And with him his new girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya, guilty, according to detractors, of being the real cause of this withdrawal.
It had little to do, really, with his vacation with her in Sardinia. The world No. 1 had begun training on clay in preparation for the Paris Games, but after a few days he allegedly felt unwell and decided, to prevent the situation from worsening further, to back off. Hence the withdrawal from the Olympics, of which he would be a special observer. Which a good part of the Italians, as is well known, did not take well, impatient as they were to see him in action in this medal fight.
On the other hand, those who believe that the Italian has done well is former tennis player Luca Bottazzi, who in an interview with Mowmag tried to defend his “heir” as best he could. Saying, moreover, some very interesting things, such as that since Jannik is the number 1 player in the world, “he certainly can’t show up on the stage at half service” when he is not feeling well.

The most interesting passage in the interview in question, however, is the one in which Bottazzi indulges in a little spoiler. Just as he had done in unsuspected times, predicting that Sinner would eventually not go to the Olympics, he made a resounding revelation.
“I think Jannik, after the Us Open, will not respond to captain Volandri’s summons, skipping the Davis Cup in Bologna. This way, he will be able to prepare his final assault to finish the season in the best possible way at the Atl Finals in Turin. The reasons for what I have just said I will explain later, although apparently, it is of no use.”
He dropped a real bombshell, Bottazzi, who seems to have no doubt that Sinner will not participate in the group stage of the team competition this year either. Absence that last year did not affect the performance of the Azzurri, but that would certainly scare and not a little, if confirmed, the fans of Italtennis, who are already dreaming of the double.
