Sinner champion at Wimbledon: after stunning win with Berrettini here’s why Jannik can win in London
A battle on the court that would have deserved something other than a second round. But the draw was evil for Sinner and Berrettini, especially for the latter, who according to many sports commentators on Wednesday night could only have lost to the world number one for what he was able to give. Too bad.
A beautiful night, four tight sets – and the final results are proof of that – that allowed Jannik to go on in the most coveted Slam, the one that for class and elegance everyone wants to win at least once in their career. But can Sinner really go all the way in the event? According to former Italian tennis player and now Sky commentator, Stefano Pescosolido, there is no doubt.

Interviewed by Panorama on the issue he answered clearly, “I tell you yes, Sinner can win Wimbledon because of the level he has reached and the qualities he has. Because he responds well, but he always has, and now he also serves well. And that could maybe be enough for number one in the world, however Pescosolido continues.
“The serve pulls him out of the tricky situation, then it is true the bad day can also happen: all challenges to be handled however I see him very prepared and improved on all surfaces. Grass included. He can do it.” In short, if before the challenge against Berrettini everyone was convinced that Sinner was the favorite (and maybe for what have been Matteo’s recent pasts we did not expect such a drawn match) the confirmation of Jannik’s state of grace helps to think even more about the fact of his coming in at the bottom. Then we know very well how strange sport is, how the best doesn’t always win – and thank goodness, otherwise there would be no fun watching it – and how every detail can make a difference. But we dream that this time everything will go smoothly, with the world number one ready to take some major satisfaction. And we mean ultimate victory, of course.
