Jannik Sinner suffers no small ‘betrayal’: his partner was, in fact, caught with his lifelong rival
The moment Jannik Sinner is going through is very special physically and mentally. He is No. 1 in the ATP rankings, but physical problems are preventing him from being at the top of his game.
Losing to Rublev at the Montreal Masters 1000 caused him to lose ground to Carlos Alcaraz. The two will compete in Cincinnati, where it is possible they will cross paths in the final since they are on opposite sides of the scoreboard.
This is the part of the season where Sinner needs to accumulate as many points as possible. Because he is the best on the circuit on cement, he has won 12 out of 14 tournaments and knows he cannot afford too many missteps. The season, in any case, so far has been extraordinary. The first Slam, the second Masters 1000 and the top of the ranking have come.
Crazy numbers for a tennis player who, however, is often at the center of very venomous criticism from the Italian public. The grass is always greener on the other side, and in fact people look more to the successes of Alcaraz-who has already won four Slams and an Olympic silver medal-than to those of Sinner.
Berrettini trains with Alcaraz, photo pops up
And so, Alcaraz is Sinner’s biggest rival and the one he is compared with the most. Tennis has a morbid need for a new rivalry after the ones between Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic, and has identified the two purest young talents of this wonderful sport as the biggest suspects to continue this tradition.
The latest photo posted by Sinner’s close friend Matteo Berrettini, who has been training with Carlos Alcaraz ahead of the Cincinnati tournament, is causing discussion on social media. The Italian tennis player further wrote, “Always a pleasure.” Tagging the Spaniard, with a few emoji here and there as well as that of the U.S. flag.
There is also to say that despite the rivalry between players, inevitably friendships are formed that go beyond the tennis court. Berrettini and Alcaraz, moreover, are on the same side of the scoreboard. What’s more, the Cincinnati tournament organization also released a video where they catch a glimpse of a court practically packed with fans. Two champions of this caliber practicing is always a beautiful sight.
