Sinner and that millionaire hobby: unexpected confession

by Lea

Sinner, astonishment in the hall at the pre-Wimbledon Media Day: he said it for real, his confession goes around the web.

In recent days, on the eve of Wimbledon, he said something that nicely sums up his greatness and uniqueness. He told the press that he not only wants to be remembered for his sporting achievements, but also for the things he will eventually be able to pass on to the people who cheer for him. Especially to children, with whom, it has always been obvious, he has a very special relationship indeed.

Every time he opens his mouth, in short, Jannik Sinner always manages to make some statement that completes the puzzle and allows us to get to know him, from time to time, a little better. Even at Media Day, held at the All England Club just before the official start of the British Major, he spilled the beans by letting loose a decidedly unexpected confession.

Blue is spontaneous, pure, genuine, so nothing that comes out of his mouth is prepared, much less “puffed up” so that it makes headlines. In fact, if it were up to him, he would gladly avoid any interviews or comments about him. The native of Innichen, after all, cares about only one thing: playing and, possibly, winning.

Sinner spills the beans: in his mind there is only this

During a disquisition on the merits and demerits of the sport he began practicing seriously the moment he moved to Bordighera, in Riccardo Piatti’s court, Jannik let slip a rather interesting reflection.

He was there, talking about the atmosphere of the Slams and the beauty of tennis when, out of the blue, he made a statement that displaced everyone present at the pre-Wimbledon Media Day a bit.

“I am very lucky because I started playing tennis as a hobby and now it has become a job. In my mind it is still a hobby. I love going on the court and just playing. I think there are no negative things (in this sport, ed.). I know how much I have sacrificed to be in the position I am in. It is always an honor to be on the field. I think that’s one of the reasons I love tennis, I don’t take anything for granted.” A hobby that makes millions, perhaps, but a hobby nonetheless. Of the series more genuine than that you just couldn’t.
