Rain again protagonist in Paris. Yesterday’s showers literally messed up the calendars and the only second round matches that ended were those played on covered courts.
This means that most of the Day 4 matches in both the men’s and women’s draw will have to be made up today. Among the first matches scheduled today is the very interesting one between former world number two Paula Badosa and Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva. The Spanish player in the opener struggled to bend British Boulter, who had won the first set. And her powerful strokes may not be enough against Putintseva, who was overwhelming in the first round against U.S. Stephens (6-1 6-2).The current world number 39 at the moment seems to have more confidence and in our opinion can subvert the predictions. Equilibrium also in the Russian derby between Elina Avanesyan and Anna Blinkova: the latter surprised everyone two days ago by knocking out the more highly ranked Cirstea but it will be complicated to repeat against her compatriot, who, moreover, won the only previous match.

The Russian this season is playing the best tennis of her career: she will, however, have to pay attention to the Slam champion, tried by injuries but still insidious. Finally, world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka should settle Japanese Uchijima in two sets, while the Bogdan-Pavlyuchenkova and Azarenka-Andreeva matches could be decided in the third set.
