Premier League, predictions fifth day: matches Saturday 4 p.m.

by Lea

Premier League, in the Champions League Liverpool immediately turned over a new leaf after the defeat to Nottingham Forest and now wants to restart in the league as well.

On the night at the San Siro, Arne Slot’s Liverpool proved that the surprising defeat to Nottingham Forest was just an incident on the road: 3-1 to AC Milan on the first day of the Champions League championship phase and immediately regained self-confidence. The Reds now need to get back on track in the league as well to prevent Manchester City and Arsenal from running away. At Anfield comes Bournemouth, whose only win was with disastrous Everton before the break for national team commitments.

Andoni Iraola’s Cherries seem to have weakened compared to last season and in attack they miss Solanke, who moved to Tottenham in the summer: against Chelsea they ran out of goals for the second time in the last three games. It will be complicated to pierce Liverpool’s defense, which so far has conceded only 28 shots, of which barely 10 are in the goal mirror (best defensive numbers together with Arsenal): we expect, therefore, a clear success from Slot’s men, who at the same time could also keep the goal untouched. Immediately back on the field after the Champions League also Aston Villa, overwhelming against the Swiss of Young Boys (0-3). A fourth win between league and cup is not utopia for Unai Emery’s Villans, who start favored against Wolverhampton, capable of collecting only one point in 4 matches.

The predictions on the other matches

In the standings, paired with Arsenal and only two points behind leader Manchester City, is Newcastle, unbeaten and fresh off two narrow successes with Tottenham and Wolverhampton.

An undoubtedly positive start for the Magpies, who, like two years ago, can give more highly ranked teams a run for their money for a place in the top four. This weekend, however, a not easy away match against Fulham awaits them: the Cottagers after the undeserved defeat in the opener against Manchester United have racked up five positive results, although they exited the League Cup against Preston, which got the better of them on penalties last Tuesday. Staying in London, Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham wants to forget the double defeat to Newcastle and Arsenal and against Brentford should not miss the appointment with 3 points.

Finally, in the matches scheduled for 4 p.m., there are two potential salvation clashes: Leicester has a good chance of avoiding defeat against bottom-of-the-table Everton, which is stuck on 0 points, while Southampton will likely make the field factor count in the challenge between newcomers against Ipswich Town.
