Premier League, predictions 11th day: matches Sunday 3 p.m.

by Elena

Premier League, Manchester United and Leicester face off just days after the League Cup clash: it’s the last for ferryman van Nistelrooy.

Fourth and final game for Ruud van Nistelrooy on the Manchester United bench. The interregnum of the former Red Devils center forward is over: during the break for national team commitments to take the reins of the team will be Ruben Amorim, current Sporting coach. Van Nistelrooy, however, will try to leave the baton unbeaten: 2 wins and a draw so far in the various competitions for the interim coach.

Manchester United swept aside Leicester in the League Cup, drew (1-1) with Chelsea in the league and got the better of PAOK in the Europa League (2-0), moreover, clinching their first win in the competition. Not a bad haul, then, for a United team that has come out of the ten Hag management in tatters and is preparing for a “revolution” from a tactical point of view. This weekend at Old Trafford it is again the scene of Leicester, annihilated 5-2 last October 30. The Foxes are floating dangerously above the red zone, yet they have managed to collect a few points, mainly thanks to an attack that has scored 14 goals (no one from 13th place down has done better). The feeling is that they will give Manchester United a hard time: the Red Devils should eventually come out on top but, as was the case in the League Cup, they will not be able to keep their goal unbroken.

The predictions on the other matches

The big surprise of this Premier League so far is Nottingham Forest. After 10 rounds the Reds are third in the standings, behind the two title candidates Liverpool and Manchester City.

A real “miracle” that of Nuno Espirito Santo’s men, very solid in defense (barely 7 goals conceded) and surgical in attack. The bombastic success over West Ham a week ago (3-0) was the third in a row after those with Crystal Palace and Leicester. The level now rises, however: Newcastle, who just narrowly beat Arsenal, arrive at the City Ground, just days after the League Cup victory that sent Chelsea home. In short, there are all the prerequisites for a hard-fought challenge, in which both should score. Definitely favored finally is Tottenham over newly promoted Ipswich Town: Spurs paid dearly for their turnover in the Europa League and surrendered 3-2 to Galatasaray, suffering their first defeat since the continental event began. Difficult, then, for Ange Postecoglou’s team to miss another game, especially against an opponent that has yet to win since setting foot again in the top flight.
