Long behind last year, particularly in the 1st half of the season, Manchester City accelerated after the World Cup to get back in touch with the leaders and win the Premier League title for the 3rd time in a row. The Sky Blues didn’t stop there, however, as they also claimed the FA Cup and, above all, the 1st UEFA Champions League title in their history. Still under Pep Guardiola’s guidance, Erling Haaland’s partners once again look to be the best placed to succeed them. After leading the way for so long and believing in the title, Arsenal had to settle for 2nd place behind the Cityzens. Ambitious once again, and with a good mercato on paper, the Gunners would undoubtedly like to knock the Mancunians off their pedestal. They did just that, winning the Community Shield at Manchester City’s expense to kick-start the 2023 – 2024 Premier League predictions, and the league too. Behind them, Manchester United had to be content with 3rd place on the podium, but made a return to the top flight in Ten Hag’s first season, winning the English League Cup in the process, while surprise package Newcastle rounded off the top 4 to return to the Champions League. The Red Devils have made a slow start to the Premier League so far, unlike rivals Liverpool, who finished last season in 5th place, while big-spending Brighton claimed 6th. Far behind, Londoners Tottenham and Chelsea failed to live up to the expectations of their fans and managers, but there is some improvement for Spurs, who were even leaders at the start of the season. Not so for the Blues. At mid-season, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal look set for a three-way title race.
