Poland-Holland, Euro 2024: live TV, streaming, likely lineups, predictions

by Lea

Poland-Holland is a match from the first day of the group stage of Euro 2024 and is played Sunday at 3 p.m.: statistics, likely lineups, predictions, TV and streaming.

The other Euro ’24 group that could hold some twists and turns is Group D, perhaps the most balanced and uncertain after Italy. The first two places seem already assigned to France and the Netherlands, the strongest and most emblazoned selections, but Poland and Austria will do everything they can to not just play the role of extras. Risking a little something might be the Oranje, who are called upon to make a full haul in their challenges with the Poles and Austrians. Scoring points against the heavily favored French, currently more than a span above them, will by no means be easy.

The Netherlands moreover has already faced France in the last qualifiers, suffering two defeats. The troop of Ronald Koeman – who returned to coach his national team for the second time after the four-year period 2014-2018 – finished in second place behind the elusive Bleus, but there was no shortage of thrills in the away matches in Ireland and Greece, which turned out to be more complicated than expected and in which the orange-colored team obtained two crucial but at the same time very painful victories. In the last two friendlies, however, the Netherlands gave good vibes, smashing four goals overall against Canada and Iceland and not conceding a single one. Koeman, however, continues to lose pieces: de Jong, Brobbey and especially Atalanta’s Koopmeiners were injured in training camp, replaced in extremis by Maatsen and Bologna striker Zirkzee.

Also anxious was his colleague Michal Probierz, Poland’s selector. He has injured his strongest and most representative player, Robert Lewandowski, who is sure to miss the first match. A gigantic problem for the Biało-czerwoni, who a few days earlier had also “said goodbye” to Juventus’ Milik, who was forced to undergo surgery. Poland made it to Euro 2024 via the play-offs after finishing third in the qualifying round behind Albania and the Czech Republic. A penalty shootout victory over Wales last March was decisive.

The latest lineup news

The form that Polish selector Probierz opts for is 3-5-2. The intention is clear: try to occupy spaces well and stay compact as much as possible in their own half of the field. In attack, without Milik and Lewandowski, the coach should rely on an old acquaintance of Italian soccer, Piatek, now at Basaksehir in Turkey. Next to him will act the Verona striker Swiderski but the “representatives” of Serie A do not end there. In defense there is Dawidowicz, while in midfield the names of Zielinski and Zalewski stand out.

In the last tests Koeman has been trying the four-man defense. In addition to his lieutenant van Dijk, we have the pair of Inter players Dumfries and de Vrij and Manchester City defender Aké, who will play on the left. In midfield chance for Milan’s Reijnders, positioned alongside Schouten and Veerman, in front instead wide to the “light” trident formed by Xavi Simons, Gakpo and Depay.

The prediction

Without “Lewa” Poland loses a lot, although the Barcelona striker had not combined much in the last two friendlies with Ukraine and Turkey, both won by Probierz’s men (3-1 and 2-1). The Netherlands has remained undefeated in the last four previous fixtures – between 2020 and 2022 the two national teams clashed in the Nations League, with the balance of three wins and one draw – and should come out on top this time as well, despite numerous injury defections. There is a good chance that the Oranje will also be able to keep their goal unbroken.
