Sinner, what has been made official in the past few hours leaves no room for interpretation: there is no hope.
Novak Djokovic has gone to stretch his legs at the Geneva Open. Carlos Alcaraz is already in Paris, and he’s buzzing at the thought of returning to the court after a break due to his forearm problem. Same goes for Jannik Sinner, who unlike his Iberian colleague and friend has been dealing with a sore hip but has the exact same desire to return to his usual furious pace.
None of the 3 of them is at the top, at least in theory, yet analysts all agree that Nole, Carlitos, and the Italian are nonetheless the three main “suspects” for triumph at the foot of the Alps. Although they are, admittedly, not in top form, bookmakers believe that, with the three of them in the middle, the hopes of the other tennis players in the race are all but dashed. But who, among the world’s top 3, is, specifically, the favorite to win Roland Garros?
The experts’ predictions are, in this regard, surprising. Not in the positive, alas. The 3 major betting agencies have returned to the fans a prediction that has shattered, for obvious reasons, the dreams of glory of a good chunk of tennis fans. This is because, contrary to expectations, in pole position is not the champion of the moment, namely Jannik Sinner.
Black odds for Sinner: no hope?
For all three, the favorite to win the Paris Slam is Carlos Alcaraz, whose triumph is worth, depending on the betting agency, 2.50 to 3 times the stakes.
After him, the second most likely to raise the cup at the foot of the Eiffel Tower is Novak Djokovic, who is believed to be able to find precisely in Paris the motivation he has seemed to lack so far. His title would allow bettors to win between 3.25 and 4 times the amount they have decided to bet on his exploit. Third, for all three teams of analysts, would then be our own Jannik Sinner, who by being idle for 2 weeks lost, in their eyes, the chance to impose himself in the transalpine country. The possibility of him lifting his second Slam cup is worth between 4 and 4.33 the ante.
Next would be Alexander Zverev, newly crowned king of Rome, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Rafael Nadal. Further away from the finish line, but still in the running, would be Casper Ruud, Holger Rune, Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev. Also, Taylor Fritz, Hubert Hurkacz, Jan-Lennard Struff and Alejandro Tabilo. Unaccounted for, of course, is Matteo Berrettini, whose participation is, even now, in doubt.
