Newcastle-Tottenham is a match for the 32nd day of the Premier League and is played on Sunday at 3 pm: TV, predictions.
There’s a big slice of the Champions League at stake on the afternoon at St James’ Park. A hot, hot match between hosts Newcastle and Tottenham, respectively the fourth and fifth leaders of the Premier League. Two teams that have been chasing each other since the beginning of the league. And who will presumably do so until the last day in order to guarantee their participation in the most important continental event.
The Bianconeri right now have three points more than Spurs-a gap that could actually even be wider, as the Magpies still have a game to make up. Winning would mean securing qualification, a historic achievement that the northern English city has been waiting for for more than a decade. Of concern, however, is the ugly defeat suffered a week ago at home to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, which scrambled Eddie Howe’s lineup 3-0. An unusual result, since they usually concede very few goals and are used to shining in non-possession of the ball (best defense in the tournament). Setback came after as many as five consecutive victories that had allowed Newcastle to restart and put aside the first difficult moment of their season. The bitterness of the defeat at Villa Park, however, was mitigated precisely by the unexpected slip of Tottenham, which meanwhile was surprised at home by Bournemouth (2-3), a team entangled in the fight not to be relegated.
Last call for Spurs?
Spurs are back to losing ways after four useful results, including a 2-1 win against Brighton that had restored good spirits in north London.
Against the Cherries Kane and co. again showed the usual flaws. And after finding the 2-2 goal just two minutes into the 90′ came Ouattara’s mockery in the midst of recovery. It was a bad blow for Antonio Conte’s former deputy Cristian Stellini, who along with Ryan Mason has the task of ferrying Tottenham to the end of the season. The Italian coach is not expected to make too many changes at the formation level: from the bench Richarlison is pawing, while Davies and Sessegnon are unavailable. In Newcastle, the absence of Saint-Maximin, struggling with a hamstring problem, stands out.
The prediction
While Newcastle may be fine with a draw, the same cannot be said of Tottenham, who should they miss out on the three points would find themselves a foot and a half out of the next Champions League. Spurs’ recent performances, however, do not inspire confidence and it is highly unlikely that they will come out with a positive result from the bowl of the Magpies, who are more solid and continuous in terms of performance. There should be no shortage of goals: in all likelihood the guests will score at least one as well.
