Newcastle-Leeds is a match valid for the eighteenth day of the Premier League and is played on Saturday at 16:00: predictions, TV, streaming.
Since last October, Newcastle have been having fun every week to disprove the most sceptical. And that is those who are convinced that the Magpies don’t (yet) have the ability to stay on top for so long and fight for goals such as Champions League qualification or even the title.
And yet that is exactly what the Bianconeri are doing, who have not lost a game since last August – their only defeat of the season – and have won their last ten, including the two friendlies played during the break against Al-Hilal and Rayo Vallecano. To speak of a surprise is perhaps unfair, given the several million pounds that the rich Saudi ownership has spent in the last two market sessions to strengthen the squad, but it was really hard to imagine Newcastle becoming a contender in such a short time, considering that just a year ago they were languishing in the relegation zone. Much of the credit, in addition to the management who were able to make targeted and functional purchases, is due to the young coach Eddie Howe, who on the bench of the Magpies is confirming the good things he had shown at Bournemouth.
The Magpies haven’t lost since August
But let’s get down to brass tacks: Newcastle are fresh from yet another success, last Tuesday’s 0-3 home thrashing of Leicester. A victory that is worth the momentary third place just behind Manchester City.
The points haul can be further boosted in the last of 2022 against a struggling Leeds side, just two points above the relegation zone. The Whites in the week held out as long as they could against City, but then the relentless Haaland (1-3) was unleashed. The calendar hasn’t been kind to Jesse Marsch’s men (Citizens and Spurs in the last two, now Newcastle), but it’s time to turn things around with the league table so short in the bottom half.
The Prediction
Newcastle have won their last four home games and are still unbeaten in front of their home crowd this season. It’s hard to think of a result other than a victory for Howe’s men, which should be a fairly straightforward one.
