Newcastle-Burnley is a seventh day Premier League match and is played on Saturday at 4pm: TV, line-ups, predictions
After eight goals against newly-promoted Sheffield United last Sunday, one of the biggest wins in the Magpies’ history (8-0), Eddie Howe’s ambitious Newcastle were also in the thick of things in the third round of the League Cup this week, taking the scalp of eventual champions Manchester City.
The Bianconeri did well to hold out in the first half, in which they threatened several times to go down, but in the second half, thanks to the Cityzens’ decline, they managed to pierce Guardiola’s defence thanks to a goal from Swede Isak. For Newcastle, in the next round, there is the other Manchester team, United, in what will be a re-run of last year’s final, won 2-0 by the Red Devils. In any case, the fact that they have racked up four positive results in a row – including, of course, the lucky draw at San Siro against AC Milan – means that the negative moment is behind them. The Magpies’ championship, in fact, had not started well at all, since after the resounding 5-1 victory in the opener against Aston Villa, three unexpected defeats had arrived in a row. Before plunging back into the magical atmosphere of the Champions League – next week at St. James’ Park is the scene of Psg – Howe and his men will face another newcomer.
They are Burnley, dominators of the last Championship. The Clarets however are struggling to adapt to the new category.
After five days (they have to recover the match with Luton) they have only one point and have not yet been able to celebrate their first success. The only satisfaction came in the League Cup: in August the team coached by Vincent Kompany had eliminated Nottingham Forest, but on Tuesday they had an easy time against the small Salford, League Two club, overwhelmed 4-0 away. The feeling is that the Belgian coach will have to revise something in the non-possession phase: the goals conceded are beginning to be too many (13).
The prediction
Although faced with a few too many absences, Newcastle have appeared to be on the upswing and should pick up another three points before the challenge with Psg. The Magpies are also likely to keep their goals unbeaten, the fifth time in a row.
