Netherlands-France, Euro 2024: free-to-air TV, streaming, likely lineups, predictions

by Sabrina

Holland-France is a match on the second day of the group stage of Euro 2024 and is played Friday at 9 p.m.: statistics, probable formations, predictions, live TV and streaming.

All as expected in Group D, where a thrilling duel between the strongest selections, France and the Netherlands, is on the horizon. Both the Bleus and the Oranje made it through the first hurdle unscathed: the transalpines, despite not shining, got the better of a stout Austria (1-0); Ronald Koeman’s men, on the other hand, managed to bend a good Poland 2-1 thanks to a goal by Weghorst in the final minutes of the match.

The Netherlands offered a positive performance overall. The fact that they went under after a quarter of an hour did not faze van Dijk and his teammates, who equalized almost immediately with Liverpool striker Gakpo, among the best on the field along with Depay, deployed as a false nine.

Only a great Szczesny, in the second half, prevented Koeman’s team from taking the lead: the Hoffenheim slinger, who entered the match in progress but is often decisive whenever he wears the jersey of his national team, completed the comeback. Even more solid was the test of Didier Deschamps’ battleship, which in addition to its first three points at Euro 2024 brought home its first clean sheet of the tournament, its third in a row if we also consider the last pre-European friendly matches with Luxembourg and Canada. Austria proved to be a bad client, but in the end a glimpse of the champion (Mbappé) was enough to topple the “castle” built by Austrian selector Ralf Rangnick, favoring Wober’s decisive own goal. The offensive maneuvering needs to be reviewed, but right now Deschamps is more concerned about the condition of Mbappé, who fractured his nose and will most likely miss the match with the Netherlands. The now former PSG player will play the remaining matches with a protective mask.

The latest lineup news

No changes are expected in the Dutch eleven. Koeman will start again with Depay as the offensive terminal and in all likelihood we will witness the usual relay with Weghorst. Behind the Atletico Madrid striker will act Gakpo and Xavi Simons, while the midfield will be formed, in addition to Milan’s Reijnders, by former Bologna man Schouten and Veerman. Defending Verbruggen’s goal are two veterans like de Vrij and van Dijk.

Mbappé will do everything to at least sit on the bench but it is highly unlikely that the future Real Madrid player will take over. This means that Deschamps will be forced to change form, positioning Dembélé and Griezmann behind the only forward Thuram, currently favored over Giroud. In midfield, a trio composed of the returning Tchouaméni and two of the coach’s pupils, Kanté and Rabiot.

The prediction

The Netherlands managed to avoid defeat on only one occasion in the last 8 confrontations with France and lost both challenges in the Euro 2024 qualifiers (4-0 in the first leg and 1-2 in the return). Even without Mbappé, Deschamps’ team definitely has something more: while not shining from a game perspective, the Bleus have players capable of pulling the rabbit out of the hat at any moment. It cannot be ruled out, however, that the Netherlands will also be able to find the way to the goal.
