Manchester United-Liverpool, Premier League: likely formations, predictions.

by Mark

Manchester United-Liverpool is a match of the 32nd day of the Premier League and is played on Sunday at 4:30pm: live TV, probable formations, predictions.

In the midweek round Liverpool immediately returned to the top of the Premier League standings. The Reds, who took the field on Thursday against bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United – overwhelmed without any problems 3-1 in the Anfield Road fortress – were already aware of the result of their direct competitors (Arsenal and Manchester City), both of whom were victorious over Luton Town and Aston Villa, respectively.

Jurgen Klopp’s team will also play after their rivals in this round of the league, but this time they will not face a “soft” opponent. Hoping that at least one of the Gunners and Cityzens slows down (unlikely), Liverpool will go in the hunt for the three points at Old Trafford, in what is in effect the “classic” of English soccer against decadent Manchester United. The Red Devils are coming off a bad night at Stamford Bridge, in which they suffered a resounding comeback by Chelsea (4-3), which matured in the dying minutes. Erik ten Hag’s men had managed to overturn the Blues, leading by two goals in the first half, but right at the most beautiful moment they had to deal with the usual defensive amnesias and collapsed. They maintained sixth place in the standings, but Tottenham and Aston Villa are increasingly distant (+9 and +11). Ergo, their hopes of playing Champions League football next season are dwindling week by week. United, meanwhile, would do well to watch their backs against West Ham, Newcastle, and Brighton, which could come close this weekend.

Lots of absences, both on one side and the other. Ten Hag must do without Varane, Evans and Casemiro, all three injured after the London match. Also unavailable are Shaw, Lisandro Martinez and Martial. Liverpool will be missing Alexander-Arnold, Alisson, Diogo Jota, Matip, Thiago and Bajcetic.

The Prediction

Manchester United and Liverpool face each other again after three weeks since the thrilling FA Cup showdown, in which the Red Devils prevailed, coming out on top 4-3 thanks to a Diallo goal in the 120′, just before penalty kicks. This time the stakes, for the Reds, are much higher and in our opinion they should make no mistake, taking advantage of a United constantly struggling in the non-possession phase of the ball. Another prolific match looms, from at least three goals overall.

The probable lineups of Manchester United-Liverpool

MANCHESTER UNITED (4-2-3-1): Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Kambwala, Dalot; McTominay, Mainoo; Antony, Bruno Fernandes, Garnacho; Hojlund.
LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Kelleher; Bradley, Konaté, van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Endo, Szoboszlai; Salah, Darwon Nunez, Luis Diaz.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 1-3
