Manchester United-Crystal Palace is a match on the seventh day of the Premier League and is played on Saturday at 4pm: TV, formations, predictions
In England it is also domestic cup time, and it should come as no surprise if Manchester United and Crystal Palace come face to face just four days after their League Cup encounter, which ended 3-0 to the Red Devils. It was a match with almost no history, which Erik ten Hag’s team managed to lead already in the first half.
On the scoresheet were Garnacho, Casemiro and Martial: the Dutch coach’s turnover worked, including the choice, initially considered bizarre, to deploy the former violet player Amrabat on the left side of defence. In the space of a few days, United lifted their spirits thanks to two victories against Burnley (0-1) in the league and Palace in the cup, results that helped take some of the pressure off the shoulders of the former Ajax coach, who was on the gridiron after a disappointing start, in which Bruno Fernandes and his team-mates suffered three defeats in the first five days of the championship. Ten Hag said he has seen some progress compared to the first outings and now he will try to get the most out of the four consecutive home matches that his team will play between Premier and Champions League (next week United will host Galatasaray, to be beaten at all costs after the defeat against Bayern Munich in the opener).
Against Crystal Palace, however, the starters will be back. The same will be done by the Eagles’ coach Roy Hodgson, who gave space to many reserves during the week.
The Londoners have so far only come out on top against Sheffield United and Wolverhampton, two direct contenders for safety, and scraped together two draws in the derbies against Brentford and Fulham. Not an exciting start, but still in line with the goal of the season, which is to score 40 points as quickly as possible.
The prediction
Waiting for more testing, Manchester United seem to see the light at the end of the tunnel and should have no problem beating Crystal Palace again at Old Trafford a few days after the cup match. There is a good chance the Red Devils, who have been more buttoned up in recent outings, will be able to collect their third clean sheet in a row.
