Manchester United-Chelsea, Premier League: likely lineups, predictions.

by Thorsten

Manchester United-Chelsea is a match valid for the 15th day of the Premier League and is played Wednesday at 9:15 pm: TV, lineups, predictions.

Out of the top six and already with an important gap to close against fourth place. Today’s “big match” between Manchester United and Chelsea takes on the contours of a challenge between disappointments. Or rather, between two noble lapses that despite numerous investments in the market seem destined for another complicated and unfulfilling season.

In any case better the Red Devils than the Blues, seventh and tenth in the standings, respectively. Erik ten Hag’s team, although continuing to collect disappointments, is -5 from fourth place (this year, however, even fifth might be enough to detach a pass for the next Champions League). Waiting to play it all out next week against already-qualified Bayern Munich – United must win and hope for a draw between Galatasaray and Copenhagen in the other match to advance to the Champions League round – the Dutch coach will try to consolidate his position in a delicate midweek round, against another team that is hungry for redemption and cannot commit any more missteps.

Match of disappointments

Manchester United returns to Old Trafford after three consecutive away matches between league and cup: last Saturday they got the worst of it (1-0) in the direct clash with Newcastle.

Another failed test for the Red Devils, who cannot find continuity. Ten Hag undoubtedly plays a lot on Wednesday night, but Mauricio Pochettino also remains a special watcher. Chelsea, despite not playing European cups, is only 10th in the standings. The main reason for this disappointing first part of the season is too many ups and downs, and the prospect of being left out of everything again is starting to become real. Last Sunday, meanwhile, the Blues lifted their heads after the heavy 4-1 loss to Newcastle and did so by beating Brighton 3-2 at Stamford Bridge despite playing in a numerical inferiority for an entire half. Plenty of absences for Pochettino to deal with, but not a few at United either.

The Prediction

Before last May’s 4-1 victory by Manchester United these two teams had recorded no less than five draws in a row, a streak in which they had never seen more than two goals in total. This time we expect an eventful match, with Chelsea, despite not beating the Red Devils in 11 consecutive matches, expected to avoid defeat. At least three goals total at Old Trafford.
