Luton Town-Tottenham, Premier League: odds, predictions

by Mike

Luton Town-Tottenham is a match on the eighth day of the Premier League and is played on Saturday at 1:30pm: TV, line-ups, predictions.

Luton Town failed to build on their historic first success in the English top flight, a 2-1 home win over direct rivals Everton a week ago at Goodison Park. The Hatters’ positive mini-series – on the previous day they had drawn with Wolverhampton – was interrupted on Tuesday in the rematch with Burnley, another newly-promoted side, who beat Kenilworth Road (1-2).

In the Premier League, however, there are three teams that in their first seven games have done worse than the men coached by Rob Edwards, for the time being out of the relegation zone: Sheffield United, Bournemouth and Burnley, the latter below Luton by a matter of goal difference. The impact with the new category, in any case, proved more complicated than expected. It had been since the 2010-10 season that a team had failed to win any of its first three home games: in their own stadium, in fact, the Hatters have so far won just one point out of nine available. Another worrying statistic for Edwards is the number of goals conceded: Luton Town have not conceded a clean sheet in their nine matches, including League Cup games.

Spurs continue to convince

Tottenham’s attack, which has never scored fewer than two goals per game in the league, could therefore go down a storm: especially as Luton’s rearguard will be without central defender Bell, who is struggling with a knee problem.

The magic moment of Spurs should continue, then, after their victory in the big match against Liverpool (2-1), which allowed them to overtake the same Reds and join Arsenal in second place. Apart from the clamorous Var error that cancelled out a very regular goal for Liverpool, Ange Postecoglou’s team proved once again that they are in perfect health: this year they will have to reckon with the Londoners as well.

The prediction

Tottenham should have no problem coming out of Kenilworth Road with three points in their pocket: their lethal attack will have an easy time against the fragile defence of the newly-promoted side, who are also without a starter like Bell. Spurs are likely to score between two and four goals.

Luton Town-Tottenham’s likely line-up

  • LUTON TOWN (3-4-2-1): Kaminski; Burke, Lockyer, Mengi; Kaboré, Nakamba, Mpanzu, Doughty; Ogbene, Adebayo; Morris.
  • TOTTENHAM (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Pedro Porro, Romero, van de Ven, Udogie; Sarr, Bissouma; Kulusevski, Maddison, Richarlison; Son.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 1-3
