Luton Town-Manchester City is a match of the 16th day of the Premier League and is played on Sunday at 3pm: TV, lineups, predictions.
Is Manchester City in crisis? In England they are convinced of it after the fourth game without a win (in the league) for the champions of the last three Premier Leagues. Are three draws in a row and one defeat enough to set off alarm bells? Yes, if we are talking about a team that habitually concedes very little to opponents and its setbacks are certainly not that frequent.
Pep Guardiola made no excuses in front of the cameras after the 1-0 loss to Aston Villa last Wednesday: “They were better than us,” said the Catalan coach, indirectly complimenting compatriot Emery, who was victorious for the first time – in the previous 13 he had never managed – against the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach. The Villans, along with Newcastle and Arsenal, are the only ones to have stopped the league’s most prolific attack (36 goals), with world champion goalkeeper Martinez repeatedly preventing a frustrated Haaland from scoring. After the defeat at Villa Park the Cityzens slipped to -6 from the top but woe betide them for dead, especially after what happened last year. With qualification for the Champions League round of 16 already in the bag, Guardiola is now aiming for a string in the league. In fact, between now and December 30, Manchester City will not face any top teams, starting with newly promoted Luton Town.
City tries to get going again at home to the Hatters
It wasn’t enough for the Hatters to put up a generous performance against top-ranked Arsenal in the last midweek round, in which the Gunners got the better of them 4-3.
A match in which there was certainly no shortage of excitement. Halfway through the second half Luton took a 3-2 lead, only to almost immediately concede the equalizing goal by Havertz and finally capitulate in the seventh minute of recovery after the decisive goal by former West Ham Rice. For the team coached by Welshman Rob Edwards it is the tenth defeat in fifteen Premier League days: for now the Hatters remain confined to the relegation zone.
The Prediction
The returns of Rodri and Grealish will allow Guardiola’s team to return to success and turn the page after four games without a win. As much as Luton in front of their own crowd managed to put a few biggies in trouble (Liverpool, Arsenal), against an angry City they have little chance of coming out unscathed. At least three goals overall.
