Liverpool-Tottenham, Premier League: likely lineups, predictions.

by Martin

Liverpool-Tottenham is a match valid for the thirty-fourth day of the Premier League and is played Sunday at 5:30pm: TV, lineups, predictions.

A sort of play-off for Europe between two big disappointments of this league. The direct clash at Anfield Road between Liverpool and Tottenham, respectively seventh and fifth Premier League powerhouses, divided by a single point, cannot be summed up better.

In comparison with Spurs, however, the Reds have played one less game and, taking advantage of the fact that Aston Villa – paired with the Londoners at 54 – is engaged in the Old Trafford fort with Manchester United, at the end of the day they could find themselves fifth alone, operating a double overtake. That is the hope of Jurgen Klopp, who is chasing a fourth consecutive victory after those with Leeds, Nottingham Forest and West Ham. In the week Liverpool was able to come out of a tricky situation at home to the Hammers, who were reeled in at the London Stadium by goals from Gakpo and Matip (1-2). Salah and his teammates seem to have found a modicum of continuity after their exit from the Champions League and now have not lost in five games, a partial in which they recorded two draws and three wins. It is unlikely that they will be able to regain fourth place in extremis-Newcastle and Manchester United currently have a significant lead-but to avoid the season being a total flop they have an obligation to finish at least in the top five.

Tottenham, positive debut for Mason

This is, in essence, the same goal as Tottenham, which in the midweek round brought out pride in its direct clash with Manchester United.

Reduced from the Newcastle debacle (6-1) that ended the very brief interregnum of Antonio Conte’s former deputy Cristian Stellini, Spurs managed to equalize (2-2) a game that seemed already lost, after finishing two goals down in the first half. It was a positive debut for Ryan Mason, who took the reins of the team and will ferry it to the end of the season. For the young coach there is immediately another tricky match, against a Liverpool side that Spurs have failed to beat even since 2017 and have lost only one game at home this year. By contrast, Tottenham’s last away win was in January, when the Londoners, with Conte on the bench, routed Preston in the FA Cup.

The Prediction

For the fourth consecutive game Liverpool scored at least two goals, a sign of a healthy attack. However, the defense continues to concede and is far from airtight. So there are preconditions for a match of at least three goals total at Anfield Road, as on the other side is a Tottenham that is trying to get out of a difficult moment and that does not shine in the non-possession phase. The Reds should avoid defeat.

The probable lineups of Liverpool-Tottenham

  • LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konaté, van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Jones; Salah, Gakpo, Darwin Nunez.
  • TOTTENHAM (3-4-3): Forster; Romero, Dier, Lenglet; Pedro Porro, Hojbjerg, Skipp, Perisic; Kulusevski, Kane, Son.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 3-2
