Liverpool-Tottenham is a match valid for the thirty-sixth day of the Premier League and is played on Sunday at 5:30pm: live TV, probable formations, predictions.
The risk is that the last train has already passed for both. Liverpool is now out of the title race after incomprehensible setbacks in recent weeks, seeing direct rivals Arsenal and Manchester City slip away. The Reds, besides dropping out of the Europa League – a competition in which they were heavily favored – have collected five points in the last five days of the league, also suffering two defeats to Crystal Palace and Everton, teams that have struggled not to relegate this year.
Yesterday afternoon Gunners and Cityzens both won, bringing them respectively to +8 and +7 on Jurgen Klopp’s men, whose chances of winning the Premier League are, at this point, derisory, given that there are only three days left until the end of the games. The season is therefore virtually over for a Liverpool side that is preparing for a momentous change: the German coach has long since announced that he will leave the bench in June and the club has already found a replacement, current Feyenoord coach Arne Slot. Tottenham, on the other hand, will confirm Ange Postecoglou. The Australian coach in his first Premier League adventure had the merit of bringing Spurs back to Europe, but the decline they have gone through in this final season (as well as too many goals conceded) cannot be overlooked. The Londoners after a tight head-to-head with Aston Villa for fourth place and Champions League qualification have stalled somewhat.
Three defeats in a row against Newcastle, Arsenal and Chelsea (9 goals conceded overall) have slipped Son and co. to -7 from the Villans, who still played one more game.
The Prediction
Klopp and Postecoglou are now aware that their respective goals are unattainable but are keen to end on a high note anyway. We therefore expect a spectacular match between two teams that have been far from solid in the last period. Reds favorites: the only defeat to Spurs in the last 13 meetings came in the first leg, also “thanks” to a glaring Var error.
