Liverpool-Newcastle, Premier League: odds, predictions

by Martin

Liverpool-Newcastle is a match valid for the fifth day of the Premier League and is played on Wednesday at 9pm: predictions, TV, streaming.

Protagonist of a start to the season too bad to be true, Liverpool went on a rampage on the fourth day of the season, annihilating the hapless Bournemouth with a memorable goleada. It was a 9-0 victory that goes straight into the almanacs as one of the biggest points-scoring victories in Premier League history. A performance desired and sought after by Salah and his team-mates, but above all by their coach Jurgen Klopp, to answer those who had drawn conclusions too quickly after the two disappointing draws with Fulham and Crystal Palace and the unexpected defeat at Old Trafford with Manchester United.

This one against the Cherries is therefore the first success for Liverpool, who are now called upon to recover as many positions as possible, being already an important gap in the standings from the other big names. Arsenal, the only team with full points, have seven points more than the Reds, but Manchester City and Tottenham are also distant. The German coach will be looking to build on last Saturday’s resounding victory: in just over seven days they face tricky challenges against Newcastle, Everton, Napoli in the Champions League and Wolverhampton.

It will not be easy to do so with an infirmary still full and with some illustrious disqualifications such as new signing Darwin Nunez. So watch out for the ambitious Magpies, who, despite coming off three consecutive draws, came within a whisker of a resounding win over Manchester City a fortnight ago. In the meantime, Eddie Howe’s squad continues to be improved: from Real Sociedad came the striker that Newcastle had been chasing for a long time, the Swede Isak, paid around 65 million euros.

The Prediction

Previously, Anfield Road is something of a taboo for Newcastle, who have not won in the Reds’ temple for 26 games. Liverpool may not be in the best of health just yet, but their resounding victory over Bournemouth may have unlocked Klopp’s battleship, who are favourites for the three points in a match with at least three goals in total.

Liverpool-Newcastle’s likely line-up

  • LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, van Dijk, Robertson; Elliott, Fabinho, Henderson; Salah, Firmino, Luis Diaz.
  • NEWCASTLE (4-3-3): Pope; Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn; Willock, Longstaff, Joelinton; Almiron, Wood, Fraser.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 2-1
