Liverpool-Manchester City, Premier League: likely formations, predictions.

by Martin

Liverpool-Manchester City is a match valid for the 28th day of the Premier League and is played on Sunday at 4:45 p.m.: live TV, probable formations, predictions.

Probably the most anticipated match of this Premier League, which could represent a turning point in a league that, with two and a half months to go, still has no dominator. So all eyes are on Anfield Road, where the direct clash between Liverpool and Manchester City, respectively first and second in the class, separated by only one point, is staged.

We are not, however, witnessing a two-way race: in fact, behind them is Arsenal, which may have taken advantage and overtaken both of them in the meantime (the Gunners take the field on Saturday against Brentford). Beyond the standings, however, this will remain in history as the last duel-unless they also meet in the FA Cup, where they are both still in the running-between Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, great protagonists of the last decade in England. The German coach has already announced that he will leave at the end of the season, saying he will not sit on any other Premier League bench than Liverpool’s.

Klopp recovers Salah and Szoboszlai

In any case, his Reds have won all seven of their last matches, including the Europa League game with Sparta Prague, which they scrambled 5-1 despite a large turnover.

More painful, however, was the victory in the last league game, with Liverpool edging it out only as time expired thanks to a goal by Nunez (0-1). Manchester City has been winning uninterruptedly for five games, and last Wednesday completed the task in the Champions League by beating Copenhagen 3-1 in the return match as well and qualifying for the quarterfinals without any worries. Guardiola has no major injury problems and will be able to field the best possible lineup: only Grealish will be missing from the roll call. His colleague Klopp is not so lucky, although the situation has definitely improved compared to a few weeks ago at Liverpool: Salah and Szoboszlai will start from the 1′, while Matip, Diogo Jota, Alexander-Arnold, Alisson, Bajcetic, Jones, Gravenberch, Thiago Alcantara and Konatè remain in the infirmary.

The Prediction

Manchester City has won only once in the temple of Anfield in the last eight previous matches and that must mean something. After all, Liverpool is still undefeated at home just like the Cityzens: Guardiola’s team has something more and, above all, has fewer injured players, but the Reds are very solid at home this year: if a draw were to occur, as in the first leg (it ended 1-1), it would not be a surprise.
