Liverpool-Everton, Premier League: likely lineups, predictions

by Sabrina

Liverpool-Everton is a match on the ninth day of the Premier League and is played Saturday at 1:30pm: TV, lineups, predictions.

The ninth day of the Premier League, the one following the second break for national teams, opens with a challenge with enormous appeal as the Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton. A cross-city match among the most “unbalanced” ever in Europe but one that always guarantees plenty of emotions.

The Reds we had left them in fourth position, on 17 points, behind the trio led by Tottenham and including Arsenal and Manchester City. The braking was abrupt before the break: after the first defeat of the season suffered at home to Spurs – the one with the resounding Var error that cancelled out a very regular goal for Jurgen Klopp’s team – Liverpool did not go beyond a draw (2-2) at the Amex Stadium against De Zerbi’s Brighton, a match that promised spectacle and did not betray expectations: the scene, in the match with the Seagulls, was taken by Mohamed Salah, who scored a brace. This time the Reds lost points from a lead situation, quite unusual for a team that has so far made resounding comebacks.

Everton, on the other hand, is chasing less lofty goals than their hated cousins and in their last outing got their second league win, scrambling Bournemouth 3-0.

The Toffees thus immediately lifted their heads after the stinging defeat to newly promoted Luton – never winning until that match – who three weeks ago had managed to impose themselves 2-1 at Goodison Park. Sean Dyche’s men are momentarily 16th, with seven points won in eight days. For the challenge with Liverpool, Gomes and Coleman are in doubt, sure to be absent instead is the long-suffering Dele Alli. On the other side, Klopp is worried about Robertson, who returned injured from the national team training camp.

The prediction

The fact that Everton have only managed to beat Liverpool once (2021) in their last 28 matches speaks volumes about how unbalanced this derby is. The Reds’ likely victory can thus be matched by another goal-scoring performance by Salah, who was unleashed two weeks ago against Brighton. Watch out for the “surprise” yellows: so far both Reds and Toffees have reimbursed very few, a trend that could continue in the derby.

The probable formations of Liverpool-Everton

  • LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Tsimikas; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota.
  • EVERTON (4-4-1-1): Pickford; Young, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Harrison, Onana, Garner, McNeil; Doucouré; Calvert-Lewin.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 2-1
