Leicester-West Ham is a match valid for the thirty-eighth day of the Premier League and is played on Sunday at 17:30: TV, predictions.
Leicester are one of three teams still in the fight to stay in the top flight, but like Leeds they are not masters of their own destiny. Salvation will depend not only on the result in the home match against West Ham but also on the outcome of the Goodison Park match between Everton, who are two points up on the league table, and Bournemouth, who are safe and unofficially already heading into the holidays.
Less important, however, is the match at Elland Road: should Leicester and Leeds still have the same points after this day, the Foxes would have the better goal difference. The focus of Dean Smith and his men is therefore entirely on Liverpool, in the hope that Bournemouth will accomplish the feat despite no longer fighting for any goal. According to the bookmakers, Leicester’s chances remain derisory: today could definitively close an era, the one of the team that in 2016 thrilled the world by winning the Premier League against all odds with Ranieri on the bench and against much more emblazoned opponents. The East Midlands club’s latest results, meanwhile, do not bode well: Vardy and his team-mates have won only two of their last 12 home games, losing eight times in the same period of time and failing to keep their goals unbroken.
West Ham’s only thoughts are on the Conference League final against Fiorentina, scheduled for June 7 in Prague. Winning the cup would be the Hammers’ only satisfaction in a season that has fallen far short of expectations, spent entirely fighting not to be relegated. The Londoners have been safe for a few weeks now and lifting the Conference would qualify them for the Europa League as top seeds. In the last round, however, they gave nothing to Leeds, overwhelmed 3-1.
The Prediction
They will hardly be able to keep their goal unbroken, with a sieve defence (67 goals conceded) that has never offered the necessary guarantees. But Leicester, one step away from painful relegation, have no other choice in this match and all things considered they can be given confidence, as they face a West Ham side with no particular motivation. The total goals at the King Power Stadium are likely to be at least two.
