Milan, the Conceiçao era begins in Arabia
Accordingly, Milan is experiencing a far worse moment, having just given Paulo Fonseca the boot. The Portuguese coach, who was exonerated after the disappointing draw with Roma (1-1), has been replaced by compatriot Sergio Conceiçao, who was pursued by the Rossoneri club as early as last summer. The former Porto man will make his debut on the Diavolo’s bench precisely in Riyadh against his son Francisco’s Juve.
This is a very different coach than Fonseca. His Porto was a tough, no-frills team that very often sought verticality. A “sergeant,” in short, who was also called upon to settle some locker room-level grits that only hastened the end of the previous management. Conceiçao finds an AC Milan that has had far too many ups and downs so far and that at the end of the first half of the season finds itself in eighth place in the league, now out of the Scudetto fight but far from fourth place as well. Initially, the Lusitanian coach is expected to keep the 4-2-3-1 used by his predecessor but it will certainly be interpreted differently: up front Leao, Pulisic and Morata will almost certainly find space. On the other side, however, Motta will repropose from 1′ Cambiaso and Yildiz, both of whom started from the bench against Fiorentina.

The season’s only previous match ended in a sleepy 0-0, punctuated by very few shots on goal. The same result, moreover, accrued last April at Allianz Stadium.
