Juventus-Fiorentina: video highlights and highlights from Sunday evening’s Serie A match on April 7, 2024, with moviola episodes and report cards.
Both Juventus and Fiorentina were engaged, with opposite results, in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semifinals, and are now looking for points in the league after a less than satisfactory phase. Allegri’s Bianconeri have moved away from second place, now occupied by Milan, and need to win to hold on to the crucial Champions League spot.
For Italiano’s men, only one win has come in their last five Serie A matches, and fifth place, which gives access to the Europa League is nine points away. Allegri fields Chiesa and Vlahovic in attack, Italiano responds with Belotti supported by Mandragora, Gonzalez and Barak.
The Juventus coach confirms Kostic on the left and does not change the defense from the last game. So Gatti, Bremer and Danilo take the field. In the Viola in defense there is Kayode on the right. Milenkovic and Ranieri play in the center. On the left is Biraghi instead.
Highlights of the challenge
Juventus goes in on goal as early as 4′ through Wes McKennie, but the assistant’s flag goes up to catch the offside position. In the 11th minute, La Penna nullifies another goal for Juve: Kostic crosses for Gatti who on a slide catches the crossbar, then the ball comes to Vlahovic who, however, throws it to Bremer who deflects it into the net, but from an offside position. The lead then came in 20′, off a corner kick: Bremer’s header hit the post, then Gatti arrived to push the ball into the net.
On the half-hour mark, Juve scores again, but the goal is again disallowed. This time McKennie suggests an assist for Vlahovic from his head, who with an empty goal cannot miss. All in vain: it’s offside again. Fiorentina only comes forward in the 40′ with a shot from outside by Biraghi that does not trouble Szczesny.
At 55′ Kostic resists Gonzalez and sets off a crossbar that is touched by Milenkovic: the deflection nearly surprises Terracciano. Vlahocic eats a made goal 10′ later. Fiorentina takes the field and forces Juve into defense. The Juventus goalkeeper saves the result at 74′ by deflecting a Gonzalez shot over the crossbar. Nzola, like Lukaku, parries a wide-open shot by Beltran. The match ended with the Bianconeri barricaded in the box defending the lead and the Tuscans unable to find the opening.
JUVENTUS (3-5-2): Szczesny; Gatti, Bremer, Danilo; Cambiaso (75′, Alcaraz), McKennie, Locatelli, Rabiot, Kostic (58′, Iling-Junior); Chiesa (58′, Yildiz), Vlahovic (85′, Kean). All: Allegri
FIORENTINA (4-2-3-1): Terracciano; Kayode (84′, Dodo), Milenkovic, Ranieri, Biraghi; Bonaventura, Mandragora (46′, Lopez); Gonzalez, Barak (60′, Nzola), Kouame (60′, Beltran); Belotti (46′, Sottil). All. Italian
REFEREE: La Penna, sez. Rome
MARKERS: 20′, Gatti
NOTE: Admonished: 68′, Cambiaso; 87′, Yildiz. Recovered: 3′
Best on the field is Bremer, very solid in defense and also dangerous in attack: in many of Juve’s dangerous actions in the first half there is his presence or touch (7.5). Gatti has no problem stopping the purple attackers and often comes forward, even getting a goal (7). On the other side, Milenkovic (5.5) often goes into trouble. Belotti does not touch the ball and goes out at the end of the first half (5). In Fiorentina, the most lively and dangerous is Nico Gonzalez (6.5).
Danilo starts well, but in the second half he is overtaken too many times on dribbles or at speed (5.5). Szczesny makes an incredible save (7). Vlahovic gets too nervous about the disallowed goal and then misses everything he can: he passes when he shouldn’t pass and misses the shot when he’s all alone or wants to go all alone against everyone (5.5). Locatelli a non-paying spectator (5).
Moviola and highlights of the match
Referee La Penna, featured in Inter-Napoli because of the case of the racist insult complaint made by Juan Jesus against Acerbi, evokes bad memories for Juventus fans. In the 2020/21 season, Juve lost to the Viola in a match refereed by La Penna: as a referee, a match still remembered for the controversy surrounding the referee’s mistakes. In the first half, the referee canceled as many as 3 goals for Juve. There is no injustice or error: all three goals are offside.
