Italy-Brazil, Davis Cup: schedule, live free-to-air TV, streaming, prediction

by Mark

Italy-Brazil is a match valid for the group stage of the 2024 Davis Cup: news, analysis, prediction, live TV and free-to-air streaming.

The title defense by defending champion Italy in the Davis Cup ’24 begins. Last November, the Azzurri, led by a stunning Jannik Sinner, won the Salad Bowl 47 years after their historic 1976 triumph.

Our tennis movement is experiencing a true golden age – as many as seven players in the top 50 of the current Atp ranking, with Sinner the undisputed number one in the world for months and fresh winner of the US Open – and it is not surprising that Italy is considered the number one favorite by bookmakers, ahead of Carlos Alcaraz’s Spain. Non-player captain Filippo Volandri for the three group stage matches has decided for obvious reasons to leave Sinner (the South Tyrolean is back from his New York exertions) and Musetti out of the call-ups, but even without the two currently strongest and most representative tennis players, Italy should still make it through the round without major problems. The Azzurri have landed in Group A – all matches will be played in Bologna – in which Belgium, Brazil and the Netherlands are also in. The opener will be with the South Americans, and to qualify for the knockout stage it will be enough to finish among the top two.

Italy without Sinner and Musetti

The format is always the same: the selection that wins 2 points first will take the match home. If Italy, for example, wins both singles they will win the match without needing to play doubles.

Volandri has summoned Matteo Berrettini, Flavio Cobolli, Matteo Arnaldi, Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli. One of the two singles players will almost certainly be Berrettini, while it is a tight ballot between Arnaldi and Cobolli. Vavassori and Bolelli, on the other hand, would step in should doubles play come up. Brazil will be missing Thiago Seyboth Wild, world No. 95: Thiago Monteiro (currently the highest ranked, No. 75), Felipe Meligeni Alves, Joao Fonseca, Rafael Matos and Marcelo Melo will try to hold their own against the Azzurri. The two national teams will face each other for the fifth time in the Davis Cup: the tally is 2 wins on each side.

The Prediction

The singles players Volandri will send out are all 3 superior to the Brazilians and the victory should come after the first two matches, without having to play the “bella” at doubles.
