Inter-Milan, Italian Super Cup final: free-to-air TV, likely lineups, prediction

by Michael

Inter-Milan is the final of the Supercoppa Italiana and is played on Monday at 8 p.m.: odds, prediction, live free-to-air TV and streaming.

As in the 2023 edition, also organized in Saudi Arabia, the Italian Super Cup will be a matter between the two Milanese clubs, Inter and Milan. An “away” derby della Madonnina in Riyadh, if you will, putting the first trophy of the season up for grabs.

Nerazzurri vs. rossoneri, Diavolo vs. Biscione: ancestral rivalry that flares up every time the two city rivals face each other. Matter of supremacy, but not only. Inter, despite having lost the only stracittadina played in the season (last September 22, precisely against their hated cousins, they suffered the first of only two defeats between league and cups), is clearly better off than Milan (13 points more in the league) and proved it for the umpteenth time Thursday by beating Atalanta 2-0 in the first Super Cup semifinal. A brace from Dumfries gave Simone Inzaghi his seventh consecutive victory against Gian Piero Gasperini, for whom the coach from Piacenza proves to be a real black beast. Quite evident the superiority of his Inter – the numbers also confirm it – capable of getting the better of the arrembant Dea even last September. For the Nerazzurri, it is the fifth success in a row, five games in which the reigning Italian champions have not conceded a single goal, while scoring as many as 15.

Conceiçao got off on the right foot

Inter dominant despite the lack of prolificacy of its best player, Lautaro Martinez. The Argentine’s wet dust, who was also inaccurate against Atalanta, is not stopping Inzaghi’s team from shining.

Sergio Conceiçao’s adventure in the Rossoneri could not have started better, however – the Portuguese coach, by the way, wore the Inter shirt for a two-year period as a player, from 2001 to 2003 – who debuted with a comeback victory against Juventus (1-2) in the other semifinal. The former Porto coach immediately managed to shake things up not even a week after the exoneration of compatriot Paulo Fonseca, who was fired after the 1-1 draw at the San Siro with Roma. The Diavolo, having filed a bad first half, pulled out personality and character in the second half, first equalizing with a penalty by Pulisic and then finding the lead thanks to an own goal by Gatti. Conceiçao was drafted in just before the departure for Riyadh, but against the Bianconeri there was already a glimpse of what could be the Milan of the coming months: combative, vertical and tough, without too many frills.

Formations chapter: the only doubt for Inzaghi is related to the condition of Thuram, who came off injured from the challenge with Atalanta. If the Frenchman cannot make it, Taremi is ready. Instead, Conceiçao will confirm the 4-3-3, with Musah replacing Bennacer in midfield. Rebus Leao, absent against Juventus.

The Prediction

One win on each side in the two previous Italian Super Cup matches: AC Milan prevailed in 2011, Inter took the rematch two years ago. Nerazzurri obviously favored to win the trophy (it would be the ninth claim) but, beware, because derbies are never a foregone conclusion and the first leg’s extracittadina proved it. Conceiçao’s team is therefore not off to a beaten start: both should score at least once.

The probable lineups of Inter-Milan

INTER (3-5-2): Sommer; Bisseck, de Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Taremi, Lautaro Martinez.
MILAN (4-4-1-1): Maignan; Emerson Royal, Tomori, Thiaw, Hernandez; Musah, Fofana, Reijnders, Jimenez; Pulisic, Morata.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 2-1
