Hungary will also want to have their say in the upcoming European Championship, and qualification to the knockout stage seems to be within reach for the troop led by Italian coach Marco Rossi, on the bench of the Magyaran representative for six years now. Last Friday, meanwhile, Hungary extended its winning streak, collecting its 13th straight result between friendlies and official matches. Szoboszlai and his teammates got off to a good start by beating Vincenzo Montella’s Turkey 1-0 in one of the tests in preparation for the continental championship, which opens in June. A penalty converted by the Liverpool midfielder was enough to tame the Turks. Rossi can also be pleased with his men’s performance in non-possession of the ball, as Hungary recorded a clean sheet for the first time in six matches (they have not managed that since June 2023). The next opponent of the Magyars, Kosovo, also came out on top with the same result (0-1) in the home of Armenia: the goal of Besiktas’ outside forward Milot Rashica in the first half hour of the game was decisive. Thus, the debut on the bench of the Balkan selection of Franco Foda, former technical commissioner of Austria, was positive.
Kosovo, unlike Hungary, will not participate in the European Championships after finishing only fifth in qualifying Group I, behind Romania, Switzerland, Israel and Belarus. Foda will confirm more or less the lineup that faced the Armenians and one of the changes could be the starting 1′ of Neapolitan Rrahmani. Up front we rely on the usual Muriqi: 26 goals in 52 appearances with the national team for the former Lazio man.
The Prediction
Another positive result in sight for Hungary, which is experiencing a good moment of form and should be able to come out on top against Kosovo as well in a match with at least two goals overall. There is no history between the two selections.
