Good news for Berrettini: after major test in Davis Cup for Roman tennis player there is total reversal. Here’s the announcement
In the summer of 2021 there was only one man in charge of Italian tennis, and it was not Jannik Sinner. Somebody was already talking about the South Tyrolean, it must be said, but nobody expected such a climb since we are still talking about a guy who is 23 years old.
We were talking, however, about Matteo Berrettini, a first-time finalist for an Italian at Wimbledon. It was a magical Sunday, despite the defeat, because that night in London Roberto Mancini’s national soccer team beat England in the final to win the European Championship. And Matteo was also applauded, because against that Djokovic, objectively, there was little he could do. It seems like a lifetime ago, decades, and instead we are talking about a few years in which, in between, everything happened. Berrettini was almost lost but now he has found himself. And now he looks like a different player.

Talking about him on Radio 24’s Tutti Convocati program was Corriere della Sera journalist who follows tennis and beyond Gaia Piccardi. “How much is the new Berrettini worth? He seems to me to be a fairly newfound player,” she said, ”he has to be seen now in tournaments. He will not go to Asia, he will do the European ones and there he will have to carbonize points. “
In short, a Berrettini who is totally beginning to see the light after surely difficult moments that caused him to slip into positions certainly not in keeping with his abilities in the Atp rankings. Now he is back, or almost back, in the business that counts and he wants to stay there, especially after his performance in Davis that showed not only his attachment to the Azzurri jersey, but also a strong chemistry with Sinner who cheered like never before at every point he played.
