Germany-Denmark, Euro 2024: live TV, streaming, likely lineups, predictions

by Sabrina

Germany-Denmark is a match valid for the round of 16 of Euro 2024 and is played on Saturday at 9 p.m.: statistics, likely lineups, predictions, TV and streaming.

The draw reached only in full recovery on the third and final day of the group stage cast some shadows on host Germany, which in the first two matches of Euro 2024 had instead received almost only applause. Julian Nagelsmann’s men were in danger of not winning their group stage match after resounding clear-cut victories against Scotland (5-1) and Hungary (2-0), and had it not been for a goal scored by reserve center forward Fullkrug in the 92′, Switzerland would have overtaken them at the last corner.

The Swiss made visible those flaws that had remained hidden in the previous two matches. And which the former Bayern Munich coach will somehow have to take into account in view of the Mannschaft’s upcoming engagements in the European Championship at home. The conquest of first place, in fact, paradoxically catapulted Germany into the most difficult part of the table, in which almost all the big names have fallen: in the quarters, for example, a thrilling clash with Spain, so far the one that has convinced the most as well as the only one to close the round with a full score. But first, Denmark, Neuer and his teammates’ opponent in the round of 16, must be dealt with. The Scandinavians went through as runners-up in Group C, the one in which England was also in, and they did so without scoring a single success. Only draws for Kasper Hjulmand’s men, who after two 1-1 draws with the English and Slovenia, also drew against Serbia (0-0). Denmark, aiming to repeat the exploit of three years ago when they pushed through to the semifinals, confirmed that they are a very solid team, athletically in great shape and far from easy to play against.

The latest lineup news

Nagelsmann has fielded the same lineup in the three group matches but against Denmark at least one change will have to be made. In defense, in fact, the valuable Tah, disqualified for a yellow sum, will be missing. The Bayer Leverkusen center-back’s replacement is expected to be Schlotterbeck but Rudiger’s condition, struggling with a knee problem, also raises concerns. From the midfield up, there will be no major changes, with Havertz once again preferred over Fullkrug.

On the other hand, Danish selector Hjulmand will have to do without his namesake, who has also been disqualified. This is a non-trivial absence, as the former Lecce man was one of the best ever (even scoring a goal) in the group stage. Two will compete for Hjulmand’s place, with Delaney expected to edge out Jensen and Norgaard. Otherwise, Wind will continue alongside former Atalanta man Hojlund in attack, with captain Eriksen behind them. On the flanks, finally, Bah and Maehle will act.

The prediction

The unknowns mainly concern the defensive tightness of Germany, which is without a starter such as Tah and struggling with the physical troubles of the injured Rudiger. Denmark will most likely come out on top and make things difficult for the Germans, as it did after all against England in the group stage, but the main problem for the Hjulmand representative remains an attack that lacks quality and continues to be too incisive. We hypothesize a narrow success by Germany at the end of a match that promises to be more drawn out than expected. Both should score.
