Friday, Aug. 2 predictions, the quarterfinals of the soccer tournament are staged in Paris: Japanese danger for Spain.
The Paris Olympics soccer tournament comes into full swing: having finished the group stage today, the quarterfinals are scheduled, from which will emerge the names of the four semifinalists, as well as those selections that will compete for a medal. Spain surprisingly finished second in its group – a defeat on the last day to Egypt was fatal – and will have to watch out for the highly motivated Japan, which like France so far has only had victories.
It won’t be a walk in the park, in short, for the Rojita led by Santi Denia, who are nonetheless favored to pass the round. That between France and Argentina, on the other hand, is a real early final: Thierry Henry’s men have so far been flawless unlike the Albiceleste and should get the better of the South Americans in a mini “rematch” of the World Cup final. Morocco can also do it, which after the historic fourth place at the last World Cup wants to impress at the Olympics as well: the U.S. is an opponent within the reach of Hakimi and his teammates.
Predictions on the other matches
The Austrian top league also starts this weekend: last May Salzburg saw its 10-year rule come to an end – it was ousted by Sturm Graz – and will try to debut with a win at home to lowly GAK 1902. Its new coach is Pep Lijnders, a former collaborator of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
Gols in sight in Superligaen and Superettan: AGF-Sonderjyske looks like a prolific match but the match between Orebro and Ostersund should not disappoint in this respect either. Also watch out for the city derby between Sparta Prague and Dukla Prague in the Czech Republic. At least one goal on each side, finally, in the first advance of the Zweite Liga, the German cadet league: Cologne, relegated last season from the Bundesliga, will face a noble decadent like Hamburg.
