FA Cup, among the matches scheduled for 4 p.m. is the one between Chelsea and Morecambe: the Londoners will face a League Two club.
One of the most fascinating moments of the English soccer season is the third round of the FA Cup, which is when teams from the Football League system (Premier League, Championship, League One and League Two) and the National League System, in which several non-professional clubs also gravitate, face each other after a full draw.
Of the matches scheduled for Saturday afternoon, for example, the one between Chelsea and Morecambe stands out. The Blues will thus face a team that plays in League Two, the equivalent of our Serie D.Coach Enzo Maresca will obviously make turnover but will try to take advantage of this round of the FA Cup to regain the success that has been missing since last December 15. No, it has not been a peaceful Christmas for the Londoners, dry of victories in their last 4 matches (2 draws with Crystal Palace and Everton and 2 defeats with Fulham and Ipswich Town). What happens to Chelsea, which until a few weeks ago looked like it might be able to threaten leading Liverpool? The next games will tell us, although against little Morecambe we will most likely witness a goleada, with the Blues, who, despite the many reserves on the field, have the makings of three to six goals. Exeter-Oxford United and Norwich-Brighton will not disappoint from the point of view of spectacle either: favored are the two teams playing away from home, but these are not two obvious matches and it is likely that there will be scoring on either side.
The predictions on the other matches
In the Championship, Burnley is currently second in the standings, hasn’t lost in almost two months, and the feeling is that they won’t snub even the most prestigious domestic cup. Scott Parker’s Clarets should get through the round at the expense of Reading, a formation that is trying to return to the cadet league.
Favorite also Preston, engaged against Charlton: the category difference in the end will be decisive but the Lilywhites can also count on the field factor. Sunderland, on the other hand, will try to avenge last Dec. 29’s defeat to Stoke City, which came out on top 1-0 in front of its own crowd. Less than a month earlier, however, the Black Cats had the better of it at home, bending the Potters 2-1. Finally, Nottingham Forest’s magical moment should continue, fresh off six straight Premier League victories: Nuno Espirito Santo’s men will not commit any missteps against Luton Town. Similar discourse for Bournemouth: at least three goals total in the challenge with West Brom.
