Drama for Sinner, once again the tennis player at the center of a very heavy attack. Here now is who has taken the time to speak his mind
Sinner’s renunciation of the Olympics has caused controversy. And who knows what Jannik Sinner, the world’s number one Italian tennis player, who is finding himself caught in the crossfire, must be thinking right now. Criticism on both sides-but it was predictable-even from those who perhaps least expected it.
Because one thing is the usual fans, or alleged fans, on social media. It’s one thing to have newspapers talking about him, and loudly, too. Still being number one in the world, of course, has pros and cons, and all this only increases the level of attention towards him. The latest, or almost in order of time, was Corriere della Sera journalist Gramellini, who had his say. In his “coffee” that is published every morning on the front page of the leading Italian newspaper. And let’s go and read together what he wrote.
Sinner drama, here is the new attack
“But really Sinner – one wonders – couldn’t he play the first round at the Olympics stuffed with antibiotics, presumably against an approachable opponent, and then recover his health over the course of the tournament? Some malicious people – the journalist continues – have retried the story of poor attachment to the tricolor, but, if not for the homeland, Jannik should have gone to Paris at least for the sponsors. Like all talents more constructed than natural, he thinks he only works when the machine in his body responds to perfection.”
In short, the words were nice and important, and as we have seen in other cases as well, it is a thought shared by many people that of the journalist. And a thought, since we live in a democracy, should always be respected anyway. That said, as reiterated earlier, being so much in the spotlight has pros and cons. And we in our small way are nonetheless convinced of one thing: Sinner is not thinking about all this but preparing himself in the best possible way for what are his upcoming engagements. So he can shut everyone up again as happened in Davis Cup last year.
